Manchester United’s change strip will be released on August 11th, according to reports.
The strip – all white with red trim – evokes memories of United’s mid 80s shirts with some also choosing to associate it with the 1991 European Cup Winners’ Cup shirt.
adidas have obviously chosen to do a staggered launch with the change strips in order to market promotional events for them separately after their delayed commencement with United.
Earlier today we ran images of the third shirt, due to be released late August or early September, a black strip with orange trim – a more modern, alternative addition to the United and adidas catalogue, whereas the first shirts to have been released have a decidedly retro feel to them.
With the Reds due to face Aston Villa on the second Friday of the season, it can be surmised that they will play in white to coincide with the launch. Leaked images of the strip appear to show it as an all white strip and while there are sure to be games where United play in all white, they will surely play in black shorts at Villa Park.
Leaked images also show that the club will also release women’s versions of the shirt – there has been some criticism about the design of the female shirt.
