According to The Independent, Manchester United could be set to make a move for Nabil Fekir.
The France international was close to joining Liverpool last month, but a move fell through after they and Lyon failed to reach a transfer agreement; partly due to concerns over the player’s fitness following a serious knee injury in 2016.
Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that he has spoken with United boss, Jose Mourinho about a possible move for the 24-year-old, who is at the World Cup with Les Bleus.
There had been reports that Liverpool could reignite their interest in Fekir after the mundial, but this latest admission by Aulas means we are now favourites. Here is how the 24-year-old will look in a United jersey should we complete a deal.
Speaking to beIn Sports (h/t Daily Mail), Aulas, who has a reputation for being a hard bargainer, said, “I was with Jose Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions.
“Personally, I am no longer in discussions with Liverpool. At the moment, we are waiting for France and Nabil to have a fantastic World Cup.”
High hopes had been expected of Fekir at the World Cup, but he has only played a cameo role and failed to make the starting 11 for Tuesday’s game against Denmark, despite the team being assured of a place in the Round of 16.
Fekir is a fleet-footed player known for his creativity, vision and set piece quality, having scored 23 times in 39 matches last term. However, he would compete for one of the three attacking midfield positions in a 4-2-3-1, where we are already arguably over-stocked.
Fekir would most likely cost more than £55m; whether he would be worth that is another question.
