The big news from the earlier press conference today was that Louis van Gaal confirmed Michael Carrick will be available for the game against Liverpool.
With a strong squad to select from, Van Gaal must decide whether to throw De Gea straight back into the first team.
“You shall see it – you never know,” the manager said. “His head is empty now and that is very important. He can now focus and concentrate on this game and has played 90 minutes for Spain. Now we have to judge how he is in our training sessions.”
“He (Carrick) can play. He was very wise to come in (pull out of international duty), but I think he can play. We have to wait and see also in the last training session, but I think he can play.”
Another major choice will be whether Anthony Martial starts for United. Our thought is that he will be a substitute, to be able to witness the pace of the game before being thrown straight into it.
We also feel that Marcos Rojo will be recalled to the starting line up after United were punished for defensive mistakes against Swansea last time out.
