Oh, oh, the excitement, the excitement! What’s happening, the Daily Star say United are closing in on done deals (to us that sounds like an oxymoron)!
But on closer inspection, their story that United have signed/are set to sign Fabinho, Otamendi and Schneiderlin is a little bit mischievous. In fact, there’s no update from yesterday. No update at all with Fabinho, no update at all with Otamendi and not at all with Schneiderlin. We suppose ‘No update on these names linked with a move to Man Utd’ wouldn’t bring as much traffic.
Fear not, the Star are set to reclaim their credibility by telling us that Borussia Dortmund have dropped a HUGE HINT that Hummels is set to sign for United.
You may want to read the piece in its entirety.
The Borussia Dortmund defender has been a long-term target for the Red Devils but they’ve made little progress so far.
But reports in Germany claim the Bundesliga side have dropped a big hint Hummels could be on his way this summer.
Dortmund have refused to sell young centre back Matthias Ginter to Borussia Moenchengladbach – sparking suspisions that they are preparing for life after Hummels.
BVB have plenty of options in central defence and must have been tempted to cash in on the 21-year-old who started just nine Bundesliga games last term.
Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc insisted Ginter would not be sold and is in their plans for the future.
He said: “We did not have any case the intention to let him go.”
Incredible from Colin Harvey of the Daily Star.
The Star round off their day with a new name, Stefan De Vrij who you may recall was one of every Dutch player last year who was linked to United after Van Gaal took charge.
Noticed a surge in headlines like this? ‘Arsenal SWOOP for Man Utd target’ to find it’s just a rumour linking Arsenal with Sneijder, or, ‘Man Utd contract rebel denies exit’ to discover it is someone who was once tenuously linked with a move to Old Trafford and, well, you’re not really sure what the point of the article is? Or, ‘Man Utd transfer AGREED’ only to find it’s Tom Thorpe, who already left the club, or some such nonsense away from what it actually alluded to in the headline? There’s a few of those floating around.
But let us concentrate on the destiny of a few of those linked to United.
Mario Mandzukic looks to be set on a move to Juventus, according to Italian media outlets, who appear to have taken a break from peddling myths about transfers to United. Petr Cech is also set to deal a ‘HUGE COLOSSAL BLOW’ which will ‘ROCK OLD TRAFFORD TO ITS VERY FOUNDATION’ by agreeing to sign for Arsenal, in desperate need for a goalkeeper since nineteen-twenty-glayven. And, rounding off this trio of haymakers, Liverpool have been told to pay £15m for Nathaniel Clyne if they wish to complete the transition to become Southampton FC from 2013/14.
Nigel De Jong will imminently sign a deal with his current club AC Milan, which will KNOCK Louis van Gaal and Ed Woodward (and a host of volunteers who were desperately trying to rebuild the stadium following the Cech revelation) from their feet and thrust them into the walls of Hotel Football.
Harry Kane has said he is flattered to be linked with a move away from White Hart Lane (well, flattered by the interest) but insists he is happy at Spurs.
The Sun say Nani is off to Fenerbahce for £6m.
