Press Red: 4th July : Ramos Seeks His Independence

Yesterday’s news that talks with Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos have reached an irrevocable stage is what is making the major waves today.

We got a little giddy, giddy enough to run the report as it broke. Because, try as we might, we still think it might happen, even though in our more lucid moments we believe that it will all end with Ramos remaining at Madrid.

Either way, we repeat what we’ve said all along, this has been expertly turned around by United and you have to applaud the manager for that. Dare we say it, would Sir Alex Ferguson even have handled it so well?

There’s an interesting note emerging from various sources about Robin van Persie. United are apparently not keen to sell the striker but he can leave now if he wants or wait until his contract expires next year. If he remains, then, he faces being second choice to Wayne Rooney as Van Gaal may well favour a 4-3-3 system next season.

Van Persie is reluctant to move to Turkey, where the major interest is, mainly because he doesn’t want to move his family. Interesting.

More re-assuring is Angel Di Maria who continues to re-affirm that he wants to stay at Old Trafford and now his international team-mate Marcos Rojo has come out in support, saying Di Maria is as good as Ronaldo or Messi on his day. Can you feel the love?
