Press Red : 5th July : Ramos Silence, Van Persie Vamos

The non-news news in the Sergio Ramos saga is that he attended a wedding. The headline taken by reporters was that Ramos said “I am not negotiating with anyone.”

But here’s the story from AS:

“I am not negotiating with anyone.” Sergio Ramos, with a very serious gesture, was categoric when an journalist from Cuatro asked him “how are the negotiations going?” The defender, who attended a wedding in Los Palacios (Seville), was blunt when answering that question, but he did not answer when he was asked “are you going to stay at Real Madrid?” The centre-back kept his silence.

Clever. Herein lies the fun of the transfer window, David De Gea goes to Madrid and we all lose our sh*t, Ramos doesn’t declare he wants to stay and we go, ‘Ooh!’

Ah, football.

A day’s a long time in football, isn’t it? Having apparently said no deal to a move to Turkey because he didn’t want to uproot his family, Robin van Persie has apparently agreed terms with Fenerbahce. All that’s left is for the clubs to agree a fee, reportedly around £5m. That will mean that if the signing of Nani is finalised today as expected, they’ll have got the pair for under £10m. Pretty smart business from them. Around more than £300,000 (approximately) a week off of the wage bill. The club look set to be reducing the wage bill by at least half a million per week – a saving of £26m per year, which is extraordinary – but streamlining is all well and good.

United need to strengthen anyway and the Sun suggest we’ve made ‘direct contact’ with Spurs to sign Harry Kane. They mention £40m. Hmm, not sure.

It wouldn’t be a summer without Clubcall (remember them) getting in on the act. They say that we may scupper Chelsea’s move for Asmir Begovic and when you consider there aren’t many goalkeepers knocking about should we lose ours…

Delving into the world of Twitter rumours, Di Marzio claims that United are interested in Torino defender Matteo Darmian. But there’s actually very little to back it up.

All signs lead to there being just one new name at United before pre-season training is properly underway – with David De Gea due to return to Manchester today, we can expect to see some development one way or the other.

Don’t believe the Kane one either. What’s happening with Otamendi now? His agent seemed to think he’d be going somewhere very soon … could we be trying him AND Ramos or is that just wishful thinking?
