Press Red: 7th June

The football season is officially over!

And with that, we’ve decided to bring back our ‘Press Red’ feature to try and keep track of the names linked with Manchester United, and provide a one-stop place for all rumours and what’s making the press on the club.

Of course if you follow our Twitter feed you will know that we do this throughout the day but now we have officially entered silly season we thought we’d give our readers some place to see it unfold and get our thoughts.

AS say that Real Madrid would consider selling Karim Benzema to United to accelerate their own move for David De Gea.

Soccerlens are reporting that AS are reporting (we know) that Nicolas Otamendi will demand a move to the Premier League. Apparently it’s not ‘hard’ to think of the club he wants to join. Soccerlens also dubiously quote ‘reports in Turkey’ as linking Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera with a move to United. Let’s file both of those under ‘dubious’.

La Gazzetta Della Sport links Felipe Anderson with a move to United, saying Napoli plan to use the midfielder as bait in a mooted swap deal with Robin van Persie. We know how often swap deals happen so file this one under certain. </sarcasm>

Curiously, Fox Sports have the Napoli president denying any interest in our Dutch forward.

Oh no wait. <sarcasm>

The Daily Mail continue with the Van Persie theme and have him linked with a £5m move to Juventus. They also say we’re ‘rivalling’ Real Madrid for 15 year old Servette striker Lorenzo Gonzalez.

They also say that Javier Hernandez wishes to spend another year on loan at Real Madrid.

The Metro report that Nicolas Gaitan will be announced at Old Trafford within hours, after the Benfica star agreed a £25m move. The Metro, Gaitan. What could possibly go wrong? Well, you know that something is not quite right if we’re not putting this at the very top. The Metro go on to claim that United have also signed Raheem Sterling and Dani Alves. Let’s give Metro some credit. They’ve lumbered responsibility on the Star, who claim we’ve signed all three, but have quoted Talksport. (We don’t like to snitch, but the Metro originally had Record newspaper as the responsible party for the Gaitan link and now blame… we mean credit, Talksport.

We don’t even want to link it, but there’s another website (G**l.com) saying we want Harry Kane and will offer £50m and/or Hernandez, Nani and Adnan Januzaj in exchange. That is some pretty spectacular swappin’ going on.

Today’s transfer market conclusion : Nobody knows what’s happening. There are the usual folk at the Telegraph or the Times who are reliable and they remain quiet. Our thoughts are that Dani Alves is a possible. Beyond that, who knows? It would be nice to think that we could get a star name in return for David De Gea but we’ll hold our breath on that one.

Angel Di Maria, hot on the heels of allegedly saying he will remain at United, scored twice for Argentina in their 5-0 win over Bolivia. That bastion of transfer knowledge, stroudlife.co.uk, suggest that Di Maria could move back to Real Madrid.

The Daily Mirror reports that Louis van Gaal is annoyed that the club are hosting a ‘legends’ match later this month.

So we decided to put a list together of all the players we’ve been linked with in the pre-season. There will be more, but we’ll begin with the most prominent, and work from there.

Players linked to United : Dani Alves, Hugo Lloris, Nathaniel Clyne, Gareth Bale, Morgan Schneiderlin, Nicolas Otamendi, Felipe Anderson, Petr Cech, Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan, Lorenzo Gonzalez, Bastian Schweinstiger, Harry Kane, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Muslera.
