Press Red: 8th June

We’re back! And so, it seems, are Sunday’s rumours.

The Daily Star expand on yesterday’s rumours linking Felipe Anderson to Man Utd and suggest we’re in a £30m war with Chelsea for him.

Talksport say United’s chance of signing Dani Alves have dissipated after the Brazil defender (sic) said it was a ‘pleasure’ to hear of AC Milan’s interest.

But the most interesting news comes from El Mundo Deportivo who say that David De Gea‘s agent will meet Florentino Perez today to discuss the goalkeeper’s potential transfer to Real Madrid. Hmm. It is interesting but let us just assume that we believe everything we read. Hasn’t De Gea already essentially agreed to join? Let’s be frank, let’s be right, we’re a little cynical, and we believe that at this point, it’s unlikely to be personal terms which hold this deal up.

No, what the Spanish paper is reporting is that Perez is a little upset at Barcelona’s treble and wants to grab a back page for himself by announcing the transfer swiftly. And by swiftly they mean this week, before 11th June. Hmm. So all that remains is the little matter of Manchester United’s participation in proceedings. Seemingly the only thing that’s been holding this thing up since January.

Munro elsewhere suggest Stoke’s Begovic as among the names to replace him at United.

And the London Evening Standard share that Hugo Lloris has appealed for calm over reports he will succeed De Gea. ‘United already have a goalkeeper‘ he says. Super Deporte think otherwise, though. They have Victor Valdes joining Valencia, which presumably means we’ll be placing a scarecrow in goal next season.

The lord giveth, the lord taketh away. Just one day after Manchester United spectacularly clinched the signing of Raheem Sterling (news from the Metro which didn’t seem to really cause the ripple you might expect elsewhere in the press), the MEN report that Manchester City will make an imminent bid for the winger. Apparently they’ll offer a fee to Liverpool. But why, he’s our player? Oh, what’s that? But the Metro… Oh, we shouldn’t?

Brand Finance say United are the most valuable club in the world, according to the BBC.

Anything else? No, it’s just a regurgitation of what we shared with you yesterday.

RetroUnited Brilliant. For Metro read Daily Express and Star as well. Self-serving click-bait which all sensible fans should ignore
