Press Red: June 9th

We’re but three days in to what we are trying to make a summer long diary of the transfer market.

But, dear reader, it’s tough. Real tough. We can handle the nonsense, we can handle the lies, we can handle the Metro telling us we have signed Raheem Sterling, but what we are really struggling to deal with is the clickbait-y headlines from blogs.

You know the likes. ‘United confirm signing!’ and it’s Tom Cleverley. ‘Star backs new United signing to come good’ and you click wondering who is the new signing. Memphis Depay? No, it’s Daley Blind. But that’s cool, if that’s your bag. Actually in some cases it is Depay. In a time where we’re not struggling for news, we are beginning to think that some United blogs are not interested in providing quality content anymore.

The Mirror use a fairly similar tactic but at least it doesn’t mislead in the same way. ‘Bayern Munich baulk at £44m price for United star?‘ they ask, when we think they should be telling. But that’s not their story, it’s from Kicker. The United star in question is Angel Di Maria. And apparently Bayern are ‘desperate’ to sign him yet seem to think that his value has dropped more than £15m in a year. Not sure about that.

As weary as we were, we were hesitant to click the Express’s headline about an ‘apparent Vidal boost’ for United and Arsenal. We expected something about that new Barcelona signing that they made despite not actually being allowed to buy anyone (that’s going well isn’t it?) but no, for once, we are given a treat, so Arturo Vidal returns (a little late on the scene for our liking) to be linked with an Old Trafford move. The Express (we know) say Tuttomercato (we know) feel Vidal could be a sacrificial lamb in order to get the necessary finance to hold on to Paul Pogba. We think that Juventus will not be held to ransom and will probably let Pogba go rather than face the prospect of losing Pogba next year anyway and then not having either.

Now, lifted from the Express in it’s entirety.

Chelsea have reportedly beaten Manchester United to the signing of Swedish youngster Joseph Colley.

Colley, who has been hailed as the ‘new Paul Pogba’ currently plays for Swedish side Brommapojkarna.

So, there’s that.

‘I’m not going! Bayern star disrupts Man Utd transfer plans’ is also in the Express. That’s their left back David Alaba. A great player no doubt but are we having that rumour when we currently have 24 left backs?

Finally in the Express, those spurious ‘reports in Italy’ claim we’ve been given a ‘huge boost’ in our pursuit of Carlos Bacca.

The Daily Star have Juventus planning a £10m move for Robin van Persie.

Karim Benzema’s agent may have ruined the fun by denying there’s interest in a move to United but never fear – ‘United agree sensational deal for Real Madrid star to return to Old Trafford’ we were tempted to go with, but, no, the Telegraph simply have Javier Hernandez saying he wants to stay at United.

‘Last summer it was a different situation,” Hernandez told Marca. ‘When Van Gaal arrived, he wanted to restructure the team and reduce the number of players. They weren’t playing in Europe and he preferred to focus on the Premier League. Perhaps he didn’t want many players because we wouldn’t have played, but now the situation is different. There will be a Champions League preliminary round to play, which means many more games and I think there might be more opportunities. I think I have more options to play at United next season.’

This comes days after United legend Gordon Hill told us exclusively that he thinks we should keep Chicharito.

The Bolton News have a story that after losing their goalkeeper to Liverpool who are just going nuts on a free transfer splurge, Bolton Wanderers may move for Ben Amos to become their number one. We are supporters of Ben who shared few great stories in our book ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’ and think that with opportunities likely to be scarce even if De Gea leaves, this would look like a good opportunity.

Finally if you fancy a laugh, ‘Soccerisma’ are quoting ‘CalcioMercatoWeb‘ who say we have agreed a five year deal ‘in principle’ for Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain.

There’s one headline somewhere (we don’t want to) that says ‘United to unveil $42m goal machine in Seattle’. It’s Memphis Depay. That’s what we’re dealing with, gang. More tomorrow.
