According to reports in The Metro, Senegalese defender, Kalidou Koulibaly is interested in a move to Manchester United.
The 27-year-old centre back has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but it seems that any such deal will have to wait until the summer. The Napoli player has become one of the most sought after players in world football following a couple of brilliant campaigns for the Partenopei.
Jose Mourinho, the former United gaffer had been interested in bringing the player to the team, but his recent sacking has put question marks on the signing. United remain determined to sign a new defender this month but the move for Koulibaly may have to wait till the summer following the insistence of his club not to let him go midway through the season.
He recently signed a long-term contract extension at the Stadio San Paolo in November 2018, so the club are confident of holding on to him. He is reportedly United’s first choice defensive target for the summer and will cost north of £90m, a fee that will make him the most expensive defender, trumping the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk.
United had hoped that Napoli’s failure to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages would help fast track a move, but Carlo Ancelotti sees him as a vital part of his team as they pursue the Europa League.
Koulibaly may be interested in a move to the Premier League after being the subject of racial abuse from a section of Inter Milan fans in a game at the San Siro.
