Possibly inevitable after reports that contract negotiations have stalled, Ashley Young has been linked with a return to Aston Villa.
Young would prefer to remain at United. “I’m at one of the biggest clubs in the world so I want to stay here as long as possible,” he is quoted as saying by the Guardian. “That’s exactly what I want to do. I think a lot of people thought I had it done [a new deal] but I haven’t. It’s in the club’s hands now so I will have to see how it goes.
“I want to go out and play and at the moment I am on tour so I am trying to enjoy myself. I hope we can sort things out. There have been preliminary talks so I am just looking to go out on the pitch and leave my agent to take care of that.”
When asked directly if he expected a contract offer, Young replied, “You will have to ask the club that.”
Young was happy with his form last year. “I was delighted with how things went last season but that was last season,” he said. “This is a new season and I have to take the confidence that I had and build on it again. I hope it will go as well as last season. He (Louis van Gaal) picks 11 players and I hope I will be one of them.”
However, ‘Here Is The City’ claim that sources from Aston Villa have told them that the club may offer their former player a return.
Aston Villa are lining up a bid for former star Ashley Young, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Young was hugely impressive for Manchester United last season and he was expected to agree a new contract at Old Trafford.
However, 30-year-old Young is now waiting on his deal to develop, and while he does other clubs are monitoring his situation.
His former employers Villa have cash reserves following the sales of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph to Liverpool and Manchester City respectively and they are ready to help coach Tim Sherwood bolster his squad in the coming weeks.
Sources have confirmed to HITC Sport that Villa are hoping for a positive reaction from United, but coach Louis van Gaal will be given the final decision on Young – whether that be selling him or giving him a new deal.
