After rumours last night suggested Everton were on the brink of signing Jonny Evans, Toffees manager Roberto Martinez has said there is ‘no truth’ that he will acquire the Northern Irish centre half.
From the Liverpool ECHO :
Roberto Martinez insists there is no truth in the reports of a move for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.
Widespread reports emerged last night that Everton were closing in on a £7m move for the centre-half who has one-year-left on his contract.
Everton are searching for a defender to help bolster their ranks following the release of Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz this summer and Evans has been touted as an ideal addition to the squad.
But Martinez was adamant today in Singapore that the Blues are not lining up the 27-year-old.
He told the ECHO: “No, there is no truth.
“I can tell you that there is nothing on that.”
