REPORT: Ramos ‘Snubs United; Wants New Real Contract’

When is the word of one person valued more than that of another?

Well, Gerry Armstrong, Sky Sports’ resident Spanish football expert, claims to have been given personal information that Sergio Ramos does not want to leave Real Madrid, he will not request to leave, and, most importantly of all, he has been using the transfer speculation to assist his quest to get a new contract at Real Madrid.

Furthermore, Armstrong says that United’s disappointment won’t end there. He says they can forget about signing anyone from Real Madrid, including Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo.

‘Manchester United’s hopes of signing the great Sergio Ramos have been dealt another massive blow – by the player himself,’ Armstrong declared on his Kicca page. ‘My contacts say Louis van Gaal told the Spanish defender to tell his bosses at the Bernabeu that he wants to leave now, but he just won’t do it. He loves life in Spain and all this transfer talk was just part of his ongoing contract negotiations.’

‘And United can also forget about signing Ronaldo,’ he continued. ‘Rafa Benitez has just come out and said he is still the best player in the world and is going nowhere. Despite all the paper talk, Cristiano is staying at Real along with Ramos, Benzema and Bale!’

So, is that, indeed that? Real did appear to make a public acknowledgement that they will not be signing David De Gea this summer when they assigned the number one jersey to Keylor Navas and now it seems that – according to Armstrong, at least – Ramos intends to use his forthcoming meeting with Florentino Perez to demand a new contract to reflect his updated status as Madrid’s longest serving player and heir to the armband and captaincy vacated by Iker Casillas.
