Manchester United have clinched the free transfer signing of Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romer, according to Gazzetta Della Sport.
Their report claims that the Reds confirmed an agreement this morning to acquire the player on a three year contract worth 1.8m Euros (£1.3m).
Romero has been linked with United for a year and last autumn was quoted as saying turning down Old Trafford would be crazy.
‘Many lies have been spread, like, for example, that I refused a transfer to Manchester United. To me, something like that is crazy,’ he told Radio Nacional.
Spanish website fichajes.net said yesterday that Manchester United were set to announce the signing of Sergio Romero within ‘hours’ and suggest that the deal is only subject to the positive results of a medical. It now seems that medical, and the deal, is completed.
Romero will become the fifth major name to sign for the Reds this summer if the deal is completed. However he is expected to accept that he will be second choice and is not likely to be the only goalkeeper brought in if David De Gea does move to Real Madrid.
