‘So I can leave then, can I?!’ Thomas Muller allegedly told Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich’s pre season training on Monday, to instigate a flurry of reports that the German midfielder may be on his way to Old Trafford.
Reports this morning suggested Muller may be offered to United in exchange for Angel Di Maria (nonsense picked up after a joke Twitter account posted comments) but fresh media comments are surfacing suggesting that Louis van Gaal has offered £60m for the man he once coached.
German outlet Sport1 suggest that United are pushing for the move although Bild have said that Muller since apologised for his outburst and he has made amends with his current manager.
According to the Express:
United chief Ed Woodward is said to have spoken with Bayern counterpart Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and made it known the Red Devils are ready to fork over £60m to land the German international forward.
Muller is another high profile name that United are attempting to acquire following the ongoing pursuit of Sergio Ramos.
Still, Bayern’s stance is apparently unchanged – Muller is not for sale. They are not so stern on the future of Bastian Schweinstieger, though United’s cooling of interest on that front may have something to do with the potentially imminent arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin.
The news comes after fresh reports that United are poised to sign Italy’s World Cup defender Matteo Darmian from Torino for a fee of just over £14m.
