Report: United Keeper Rejects La Liga Move

Victor Valdes has rejected an offer from Valencia to return to Spanish football, AS are reporting.

Their English website reports :

The domino effect is going to prevent Valencia picking up one of the best keepers in the market. The Spanish side had made a move for Víctor Valdes, second keeper at Manchester United, but the likely departure of first keeper David de Gea, bound for Real Madrid, led to the Catalan player putting a stop to the talks.

Valdés was keen on the offer from Valencia, seeing it as a way to get back to playing at the highest level after a difficult year coming back from injury where he’s only played two games for Manchester United’s first team

Valdes is hugely grateful to Valencia for the interest in him, but decided that after the efforts Manchester United have made for him over the year, he should stay where he is with the aim to be the club’s number 1.

The news is bound to be welcome for Louis van Gaal, with some quarters suggesting that the manager brought in Valdes for exactly the quandary he faces at present, and doesn’t want to be left without a top class goalkeeper at short notice.

Valdes signed for the Reds in January on a free transfer after a successful career with Barcelona.
