Report: United On Verge Of £14.2M Signing

Manchester United are on the verge of agreeing the £14.2m signing of Torino defender Matteo Darmian, according to Sky Italia.

The Italian club had reportedly given United a deadline to complete the signing and apparently the Reds have responded swiftly, making a £12.7m offer and matching a bonus payment which Torino had insisted on.

Darmian has already agreed terms on a four year deal which will surely see him become the club’s first choice right back.

The 25 year old was developed at AC Milan before rising to prominence in Turin. He has played 195 times in his career and scored seven goals – five of which came last season.

Though now renowned as one of the premier right full backs in Europe, Darmian can play on either side and has on occasion played in the middle. In 2012/13 he registered more tackles than anyone else across any of Europe’s top 5 leagues, form that saw him called up to the Italian national side, where he has become a fixture.

He was awarded the Pallone Azzurro after being recognised as the best performer for the national side in 2014. He has 13 caps.

If completed, Darmian will become United’s second signing of the summer after PSV’s Memphis Depay signed for the club in May.
