Spanish newspaper AS are reporting that Manchester United are poised to sign Barcelona’s Pedro for a fee of around €24m, which equates to £16.7m.
The move has seemingly been ‘imminent’ for a few days now but reporter Javier Matallanas claims that the Reds have made an official offer which includes £4.18m in add ons and the deal ‘could be closed very soon’.
There had been plenty of speculation that Chelsea have re-entered the race for the Spanish international forward and even Liverpool have been credited with an interest but these fresh reports suggest that United have ‘won the race’. Although, it must be said, the Spanish press have suggested that this deal has been imminent for a good few days now, and Matallanas concedes in his report that it may well be a few days before Pedro even makes a decision on his future, pending a meeting with Josep Maria Bartomeu, the Barcelona president.
The AS report :
Manchester United have set aside 24 million euros plus a further six in add-ons to bring Barcelona’s Pedro to Old Trafford for the new season. The deal could be closed as early as this week and would see the Canary Islander join up with compatriots Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and who knows, maybe David de Gea and/or Sergio Ramos.
Pedro took part in Tuesday’s friendly against LA Galaxy – his first outing of the pre-season. It may also be his last for Barça as it appears that United have convinced the player to join them. Luis Enrique admitted before the pre-season that he understands Pedro’s frustration at his lack of playing time but added that he did not want the player to leave. Recently-elected club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is due to join up with the squad on the US tour in the next few days and that could be the moment when Pedro announces where his loyalities lie.
