Having run with the story that Manchester United offered 100m Euros for Thomas Muller of Bayern Munich last week, Sport Bild are pushing and sticking with it – saying that Louis van Gaal has instructed Ed Woodward to do all he can to bring the German forward to Old Trafford.
Bild say that Van Gaal has instructed Woodward to spend his entire budget if necessary, though the German outlet do say that the budget is approximately £70.7m – that 100m Euros figure.
Quite whether Bayern would be willing to listen when the offer is the same as last time is doubtful. And quite whether United’s budget has been revealed is another thing altogether.
Meanwhile, another note of interest is that they say Ed Woodward feels Gareth Bale is more ‘get-table’ and would like to pursue him.
Bale has declared his determination to remain in Spain after a difficult second season but his family reportedly moved back to the UK last season. And so, there are suggestions that the family pull, as well as the prospect of moving for another world record fee in just two years, may prove appealing to the Welshman.
Bale has scored 39 goals in 92 games in Spain, including strikes in the Copa Del Rey and Champions League Final in 2014. He had a stunning first season, but came in for some criticism last season as Barcelona stormed to triumph and the Madrid-centric looked for a scapegoat. There appeared to be visible fractions in the partnership between Bale and Ronaldo – though, with the former’s insistence that he wishes to continue at the Bernabeu, and Perez’s open adoration for him, it seems that such a move is just as impossible as the one for Muller.
