Sky Sports: Manager confirms Man United target Ivan Perisic is set for crucial talks

By Dave Marshall

Inter Milan manager, Luciano Spaletti has confirmed that the club will be speaking to Croatian international, Ivan Perisic when the players return for the pre-season tour. The 58-year-old Italian who left Roma at the end of last season is keen on persuading Perisic to stay, but concedes that if he wants to leave, the club won’t act as a barrier to him.

Perisic has never hidden his intention to leave San Siro and join Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, but has not handed in a transfer request yet. Sky Sports understand that Perisic is desperate to play for United and even liked a post by Romelu Lukaku, who announced his Manchester United medical on Instagram over the weekend, fuelling speculation he could be set for a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are keen on his services but have had two bids rejected by the Nerrazurri. Inter are determined to keep him as they believe he will be a key tool in their ambition to return to the top of Italian football under the auspices of their new Chinese owners.

Speaking recently, Spaletti was quoted as saying via Sky Sports:

“I will listen to him (Perisic), I’m counting on him but we’ll have to understand his intentions

“ It would not be nice for me to hear him say words like ‘I want to leave’. We’ll see.

“You keep talking about Perisic and his desire to leave but I need to listen to his own words first and then decide how to act.” he added.

Perisic is wanted by Jose Mourinho to bolster his attacking options as the Red Devils struggled for directness on the flanks for majority of last season. He is a winger known for his dribbling, passing and aerial strength and will be an upgrade on the current first team options and also complement them.

Inter Milan struggled for consistency last season, but the Croat’s standards didn’t drop as he registered an impressive 12 goals and 13 assists for the 18-time Italian champions.
