Three alternatives to £50 million-rated Matic, Man United fans will love them

Manchester united have been linked to Chelsea enforcer, Nemanja Matic, for most of the transfer window. The Serbian superstar is wanted by Jose Mourinho to add bite and solidity to his midfield, and sees his former player as the best player to perform that role perfectly.

Despite Chelsea signing Tiemoue Bakayoko as 28-year-old Matic’s potential replacement, the Blues are reluctant to see Matic line up for a direct title rival and will instead prefer to sell abroad.

Time is running out for Mourinho to sign a player that will enhance his squad and we take a look at the alternatives to the former Benfica should he fail to make the switch from London to Manchester.

Eric Dier

The Tottenham midfielder is a key player under Mauricio Pochettino but the allure of playing for the biggest team in the country may help turn his head. However, Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy has stated that the 23-year-old England international is not for sale at any price, meaning that if United want him, we would have to cough up excess of £50m for his signature.

Dier was shunted back to central defence as part of the back three in favour of summer arrival, Victor Wanyama.
Idrissa Gueye

It is surprising that United have not gone all out for the sensational Senegalese currently plying his trade for Everton. The defensive midfielder was ahead of Chelsea beast, N’Golo Kante in the tackles statistics for last season, despite going for the Nations Cup back in January.

He has been consistent in the country for the last two years and will be a cheaper alternative to any other transfer target the club may be looking at.

Oriol Romeu

Southampton v Everton - Barclays Premier League

The former Chelsea man is rebuilding his reputation on the south coast for Southampton after an underwhelming spell at Stamford Bridge.

The La Masia graduate has found his joy for football at the St. Mary’s stadium after a nasty injury some years ago. He does his job professionally without any fuss, preferring to do the job of stopping opposition play, rather than looking for the goals and assists. Jose Mourinho needs a selfless player that will screen the defence and with his Barcelona background, has the technical brilliance to match his brawn.
