In partnership with SetantaBet, 7Cantonas.com brings you “Tonge’s Tips”, a look ahead to the Premier League games in the 2012/13 season with a bit of a twist. Just like last season, Alan, the 7Cantonas team and the good fellows over at GGMU and United Rant are going head to head in their predictions, and want you, our readers, to join in.
Al Straight to the point this week, no messing about….Man Utd will keep on winning and Liverpool will keep on losing….the tips are:
Aston Villa 0 Man Utd 2 (11/2 with Setanta Bet)
Chelsea 2 Liverpool 0 (7/1 with Setanta Bet)
Mart After last weeks 2-1 straight forward victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford. United travel to Villa Park looking to continue their straight run of 4 league wins. Last season United beat Villa 1-0 with Phil Jones bagging his first goal for the reds.
Villa have only 2 wins in the last 10 and sit just outside the relegation zone. Previously Villa Park has been a happy hunting ground for United and they’ll be looking to carry that on this season.
I’m backing the reds to win 3-1 (10/1 with Setanta Bet)
For my other tip I’m backing Chelsea and Liverpool to draw (5/2 with Setanta Bet)
Ed Different season, same result, with Aston Villa struggling at the foot of the Premier League in the current campaing. New manager Paul Lambert, all bright hope and bushy tails after a successful campaign with Norwich City last year, has failed to build on Villa’s meager resources. As such, Villa’s 17th place in the Premier League is little surprise, with owner Randy Learner keeping the purse string tight at Villa Park. Clouds have gathered in the Midlands for some time and look set to hang around for the season to come.
Villa’s form augers well for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, traveling to Villa Park for the second in four successive away games. Victories over Arsenal at Old Trafford and SC Braga came not without some drama, but the Reds have put together a good run of wins in recent weeks.
Moreover, while United’s problem is keeping the sheets clean, Villa has barely scored all season. Despite the Reds’ fragility at the back, it’s genuinely hard to foresee Villa breaking United down. Not least with Ferguson’s men irrepressible up-front. Should the unthinkable happen and Villa score, United is averaging almost three goals a game this season.
It’ll be no surprise, then, if United rack up a comfortable 3-0 victory at Villa Park on Saturday tea time (11/2 with Setanta Bet)
Elsewhere, Chelsea face Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Chelsea’s campaign may have often been overshadowed by controversy off the pitch, but on it Roman Abramovich has financed an attractive looking side. Eden Hazard and Oscar should prove fine signings, and far too much for Liverpool. 2-0 to Chelsea (7/1 with Setanta Bet)
