Tonge’s Tips : Newcastle United (Win a free £5 bet!)

In partnership with SetantaBet, 7Cantonas.com brings you “Tonge’s Tips”, a look ahead to the Premier League games with a bit of a twist. This season, Alan, the 7Cantonas team and the good fellows over at GGMU are going head to head in their predictions, and want you, our readers, to join in.

Alan : Normally I would be tipping up a straightforward home victory here, however a couple of of areas are giving me food for thought. Firstly, Newcastle are playing some really good stuff at the moment and are punching well above their weight.

Last weeks result at Man City sounded one sided but, after seeing a replay, you could argue it could well have been a different story if Newcastle had been blessed with a bit more fortune? Too add to this (for some reason?) you could argue we have been “stuttering” along a bit recently, and are not managing to get into the free flowing form we’re accustomed to. To quote from the brilliant film Forrest Gump, “you don’t know what you’re going to get”… well, its certainly true you don’t know what you’re going to get, but one thing I can say is that it usually ends with a win! It will be a tough test this one, and we’ll need to be 100% switched on and fired up to take the three points! After weighing up the pros and cons, I am going to go for a really hard fought 2-0 victory. (9/2 with SetantaBet)

The bonus tip takes me to Anfield. Most Man Utd fans got what they wanted with Man City losing to Napoil, and it will be interesting to see if this has affected their confidence? Liverpool will be buoyant after an excellent win at Chealsea and can turn this to their advantage. I don’t usually like tipping up the scousers, but on this occasion I’ll make an exception and i’m going to plump for a 2-0 home win (12/1 with SetantaBet).

Mart : After Tuesday night’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Benfica at Old Trafford, the Champions welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Saturday. Newcastle who have a great record so far this season come to Manchester after being beaten comprehensively by league leaders Manchester City.

We’ve ground out results recently and sadly I don’t see that changing on Saturday, especially with the news that Rooney who has been our most creative outlet being rated only 50/50 to play. Will we see Dimitar Berbatov getting a second start in a row or will it be Chicharito, or both?

It will be hard for us to break Newcastle down as they’ve got a good defensive record this season and I’m going to predict another 1-0 victory for us with Chicharito netting the winner (5/1 with SetantaBet).

On Sunday, Liverpool play host to our noisy neighbours. Liverpool who will be boosted by their 2-1 win over Chelsea last Sunday will be looking to become the first side to beat City, who of course will be looking for a morale boost after their loss to Napoli in Naples in midweek, I’m backing Liverpool to come through in a narrow 2-1 win (10/1 with SetantaBet).

Tom @ GGMU: United’s recent form has been a cause for concern for Fergie as they stutter through the group stages of the Champions League and are just about staying in touch with City in the league without playing exceptionally well. Having said this, we do have an impressive points tally for this juncture of the season and continue to score goals. Alan Pardew’s Newcastle have put an impressive run together this season, remaining unbeaten until last weekend when they fell down at Eastlands. In truth, it was their first major test of the season and you would expect a similar fate at Old Trafford. Fergie has indicated that Wayne Rooney ‘should be fit to play’ which is a boost for United, although Hernandez and Nani have both been in good form. United 3 – 1 Newcastle (9/1 with SetantaBet).

Bonus Bet: Nani to score anytime @ 6/1.
