In partnership with SetantaBet, 7Cantonas.com brings you “Tonge’s Tips”, a look ahead to the Premier League games in the 2012/13 season with a bit of a twist. Just like last season, Alan, the 7Cantonas team and the good fellows over at GGMU and United Rant are going head to head in their predictions, and want you, our readers, to join in.
Al After a dreadful result last Saturday tea, we have a glorious opportunity to bounce back and bounce back we will. QPR are on a real low and (hopefully) should be nothing but cannon fodder tomorrow. I’m going to tip up a one sided 3-0 win (6/1 with Setanta Bet)
For the bonus tip I’ll head to Stamford Bridge. This has the makings of a point apiece and I’ll go for Chelsea 1 Man City 1 (6/1 with Setanta Bet)
Mart United host a QPR side who haven’t won all season and have picked just one point up on the road so on paper this one should be a straightforward win for the reds. QPR today announced the sacking of Hughes (who lasted longer than Champions League and FA Cup winner Di Matteo) and so QPR will be looking to impress the new boss, which as of writing appears to be Harry Redknapp.
United suffered a shock loss at Norwich last week, though it has been coming for a while as there’s only so many times you can go behind without it costing you and last week was just that. United have no fresh injury worries so will hopefully put out a side that will batter QPR, not Giggs and Carrick please Fergie!
I’m going to back us to win this one with ease and it’ll be 3-0 (6/1 with Setanta Bet)
For my other tip, I’m going to back Chelsea to beat Man City 2-1 (9/1 with Setanta Bet)
Ed The latest tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson’s remarkable career was unveiled at a wet Old Trafford on Friday – a nine foot high statute placed at the entrance to the renamed Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. The opening ceremony, attended by the great and good of United’s past and present, is the latest in a series of tributes the the great manager as the winter of his career approaches.
Yet, there is some sad irony in celebrations of Ferguson’s greatness, coming at the end of a week in which his side has been anything but. Defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League may not have been damaging, but that to Norwich City domestically certainly was. More worrying than a pair of 1-0 losses, though, is the insipid manner in which Ferguson’s side played this week, especially at Carrow Road.
United’s defending has been anything but optimal this season, leaving the Reds in genuine trouble should the multi-talented attacking unit fail as it did in East Anglia.
The solution to United’s recent troubles isn’t obvious – certainly the Reds need to defend better, but if the sacrifice is attacking fluidity many supporters would question the change.
Good job, then, that Queens Park Rangers arrived at Old Trafford this weekend – the Premier League’s worst team, now managerless after Mark Hughes’ dismissal. It should prove to be a comfortable victory for Ferguson’s side. Then, QPR’s hapless players will probably turned up the work-rate for the first time this season at Old Trafford. That old cliché about it being the visitors’ Cup Final certainly holds true.
In the end, however, class should tell and I expect United to run out 3-0 winners (6/1 with Setanta Bet)
Elsewhere, Chelsea travel to Manchester City in the ‘glamour’ tie of the week. Well, certainly the most plastic. Rudderless Chelsea visit Europa-bound City. Money doesn’t buy everything, but it has brought much hilarity to Reds this week. 1-1 (6/1 with Setanta Bet)
