United prepare to smash transfer record for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

According to reports from The Express, English giants, Manchester United are prepared to smash the club’s transfer record to sign 22 year old Lazio midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The player is currently turning heads in Series A after a couple of dazzling performances and it is believed that Jose Mourinho, our club manager is looking at making the player a big money arrival in the January transfer window.

After seeing his side come up short in the Manchester Derby over the weekend, Mourinho knows that the team still needs a number of quality additions to make us true title favourites alongside City, who have set the early pace all season.

The Express reports that United are preparing a mammoth offer of around £95m for Milinkovic-Savic which would eclipse the £89m we paid to Juventus for the services of Paul Pogba. The Serbian international is quietly growing a reputation as one of the best young players in world football and was sensational in Lazio’s 2-1 victory over Sampdoria just this past weekend.

Manchester United scouts were reportedly in the stands to run the rule over the player and they were surely not disappointed. With the Rome outfit trailing 1-0 on 80 minutes, Milinkovic-Savic took the game by the scruff of the neck, first equalising before going on a brilliant run deep in stoppage time to assist Felipe Caicedo who promptly scored the winner.

Despite spending more than £300 million since taking over at Old Trafford, Jose is still on the lookout for more quality additions. Milinkovic-Savic joined the Italian giant back in 2015 from Genk for £16m, but his time with the Stadio Olympico outfit has seen his stock rise with the club’s sporting director, Igli Tare insisting that they have received several offers for his services, with many above the £60m mark.

If signed, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will relieve Pogba of the burden placed on him in the central midfield position. He has scored 16 goals in 93 appearances for Lazio.
