David De Gea starts for the first time this pre-season.
Louis van Gaal suggested that the team which started tonight’s game would be the team that begins the Premier League season against Spurs. That’s something of a surprise as Chris Smalling – arguably United’s best performing centre half – is left out at the preference of Phil Jones, while Daley Blind plays as the left sided centre half. Ander Herrera is also surprisingly left out.
