Why January is going to be a pivotal month for Manchester United

Manchester United are on the long road to recovery as they have now won their last four matches in The Premier League. The Red Devils are finally showing the stuff they are made of, as a string of consistent results have left them just four points behind Arsenal, who presently occupy the last Champions League spot.

At the beginning of the season, there was a lot of criticism of Jose Mourinho’s team, as they laboured to victories, and then suffered a spate of draws and losses that threatened to derail their season, but the Portuguese tactician got his tactics right, and they have not looked back  since.

The likes of Ander Herrera, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo have all enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance, and the goal-scoring form of summer signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic in recent weeks has been nothing short of spectacular.

However, the upcoming month will have a huge say in whatever United and Jose go ahead to achieve this season.

In January, the 20-time English champions face tricky away ties to West Ham and Stoke and a potential Top 4 decider against Liverpool. In between, they face home and away fixtures in the EFL Cup semi-final against Hull City, managed by former Manchester United assistant coach, Mike Phelan.

A transfer window in which the likes of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin are expected to leave Old Trafford also beckons, while Jose can also strengthen his squad at the turn of the year.

Having a good first month of the New Year will be crucial to Jose and United, and few will bet against them taking maximum points in what promises to be difficult league matches.
