Maroune Fellaini has always been at the receiving end of Man United fans since moving to Old Trafford. The former Everton man has struggled to win over United faithfuls. However, stats has now suggested that the midfielder deserved some praises from the Red Devil fans.
He was a force to reckon with at Goodison park but his poor start at Old Trafford has pushed him down the pecking order.
Though known for some careless tackles – like the one that resulted in a penalty in favour of his former club in the dying minutes of that match with United leading by just a lone goal- he has produced some eye catching performance with the ball this term.
In the 21 Premier League appearances he has made, he has complete pass with each covering a distance of average 15 metres. And not only that, he has won more than half of his duel as well as creating chances for the forwards.
Apart from scoring some vital goals, he always help to stabilize the team, creating attack and holding up the ball. His goal against Hull City in the semi-finals of the EFL cup proved important in helping Man United advance to the final while his opener on Sunday against Middlesbrrough was a prove of the quality he possesses.
Jose Mourinho has always turned to him to help the team preserve their lead and he executed that perfectly.
He started his first league match in as many games this season due to the absence of Paul Pogba and in actual fact United controlled the game better with Fellaini and Michael Carrick in the midfield.
Despite Middlesbrough moments of mounting pressure they still found it difficult to break down United midfield, owing ,much to Fellaini resistance.
It is left to see if United fans will have a change of heart towards the Belgian international and give him the credit he deserves.
