Zlatan Ibrahimovic fires warning to Chelsea ahead of Premier League clash

By Felix Law.

Manchester United and former Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed his disappointment with his goalscoring miss in the drab goalless draw with rivals Liverpool on Monday night.

The forward had a disappointing game as Jurgen Klopp’s charges played United off in the second half after failing to dominate the game in the first 45 minutes. Ibrahimovic had the glorious chance in the second half as Paul Pogba floated a nice high ball to him, with Liverpool’s German goalkeeper Karius at his mercy, with Ibrahimovic nodding wide failing to test the goalkeeper. Liverpool will later stretch United with David De Gea needing to go down at the right time to save Emre Can at the later stages.

“I needed to chase the ball instead of attacking the ball, but still I should have put it at least on the target. But the next game, I will do better.”

“I think the game was a good game, a difficult game at the same time. I mean away against Liverpool- Liverpool are unbeaten against the top teams…. I think it was a good result.”

“The season is long. I seems by teams are losing points at the same time. Any week, different things can happen so it is important to win the games you need to win and stay on the top. I mean, if you win two games in the row you’re on the top. That’s the way it has been so far. If we can get the wins we need to win the points then we are in touch, but it’s a long season,” the striker concluded.

Ibrahimovic at 35 is still a top quality striker and is an exception judging from his consistent form over the years having won the league title in Spain, Netherlands, Italy and France with the likes of Barcelona, Ajax, Juventus, AC Milan Inter Milan, PSG. Last season, the forward scored more than 35 goals for PSG in all competitions as Laurent Blanc’s side swept the French Ligue 1, Ligue de France and Coupe de League.

Under Jose Mourinho at United, Ibrahimovic has struggled of late as a result of lack of service from the attacking midfielders particularly in the central attacking midfield position. Against the likes Liverpool and Watford, the likes of Juan Mata and Paul Pogba have all struggled in that position as Mourinho is yet to get the right person for that position.

Pogba in particular made statements in the media claiming he wants to play higher up the field in a 4-2-3-1 formation after scoring a stunner in the 1-0 Les Blues win over Netherlands In the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday. Pogba will then flop when played in his preferred position against Liverpool as he was the worst man on the pitch alongside Liverpool’s Danny Sturridge who was missing in action.

Ibrahimovic was an instant hit after joining United this summer scoring a goal in his first game (Community Shield against Leicester City) going ahead to score thrice in his first four league games against the likes of Bournemouth, Southampton and Manchester City. Unfortunately this form couldn’t be sustained as the Swede has struggled of recent having not scored a league goal since September 10. Manchester United fans will pray Ibrahimovic regains his lost form as they travel to Chelsea on Sunday.
